Chase Sexton got the holeshot but let Shane McElrath come to the inside on the second corner and Sexton got pushed off the track giving McElrath the lead. A couple of corners later, Sexton landed on another rider and went down. But Sexton caught a break when Garrett Marchbanks crashed and brought out a red flag, setting up a complete restart.
The heat races started off in the mud from earlier in the day. The track was starting to dry out a bit, but during the downtime during the red flag, rain started falling again.
McElrath got the holeshot on the restart with Sexton in second place this time. Five minutes into the race McElrath ran into a lapper and went down, allowing Sexton to take the lead. By the time McElrath got going again, Sexton had a commanding lead that was never challenged.
450 Class
With the track still muddy, Zach Osborne got the holeshot and held the lead for about a lap before getting passed by Cooper Webb and then Eli Tomac. Tomac kept close to Webb for about 8 laps and finally snuck past him with about 12 minutes left on the clock. At the same time, Ken Roczen was slowly moving backward in the pack.
Tomac started to pull away and then Webb got a second wind and was able to retake the lead with about 6 minutes left. Tomac kept close and then regained the lead about 4 laps later. Webb stayed close to Tomac the rest of the way as the two riders fought through lappers and every corner looked like Webb might be able to make a pass. But Tomac hung on for the win.
Tomac and Webb lapped up through fourth place.
