The 2017 season opened with a pair of main events that were fairly uneventful - particularly at the top spots.
In the 250 main, Shane McElrath took the holeshot and went wire-to-wire for the win. Aaron Plessinger worked his way to second place, and looked like he might start reeling in McElrath, but didn't have anything for him. Rookie Austin Forkner crashed early on and worked his way back up for an 8th place finish.
In the 450 class, Ken Roczen jumped on his new Honda and picked up right where he left off in the 2016 outdoor series. Marvin Musquin challenged Roczen for the holeshot and about 2 turns before Roczen pulled away. Roczen cruised to a 16-second victory.
Ryan Dungey also picked up right where he left off last Supercross season. He got off to a fourth place start and rode fast and steady to a second place finish.
Eli Tomac spent most of the first half of the race in second place, but faded late for a fifth place finish.
450 rookie Cody Webb's night got off to a slow start. Webb had a rough start in the heat race and for the first time in his career didn't transfer out of the heat race. Webb spent most of the main in 11th place and eventually finished 10th. |
